We received a call this week from a customer over in Wolverhampton who had an issue with her gutters leaking, causing chaos every time it rained.
When we arrived at the property the rain was coming down thick and fast and we could clearly see there was an issue as shown in the photo to the right...

We got to work straight away and within a couple of minutes we found the problem... a blockage in the down pipe was present which in turn was not allowing the water in the guttering to flow. The water had no other option but to overflow from the lowest point in the run, luckily the blockage was only in the down pipe bend so it was a simple case of removing the off set bends and clearing these free of the build up of moss that had fallen from the property roof.

All guttering is pitched towards the down pipe so the water is able to exit from the roofline, if there is anything in your gutters the water flow pulls the muck towards the down pipe as it should. If your gutters haven't been cleaned for a while the build up of muck can't always make it around the bends and clogs up causing a blockage which then causes problems.
The kind of problems seen in the photo above, this being one of the reasons it is advised to have you gutters cleaned at least once a year to keep them working as they should and not just waiting until there is a problem causing damage to your home.

When left unmaintained the damp debris in your guttering is a perfect growing medium for plants to grow, in the picture to the left you can see an example of this when the gutters hadn't been cleared for a few years and literally grew its own gutter tree. As the roots grew they forced themselves down the down pipe and then started growing down the gutter run causing the gutter clip to separate resulting in another major leak and blockage.
